Pinnguaq was one of the recipients of the Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program from 2018 to March 21, 2020. Digital Skills for Youth or DS4Y connects underemployed college graduates with small business and nonprofit organizations where they can gain meaningful work experience to transition to career oriented employment. DS4Y helps graduates aged 15-30 (or anyone between 15-30 in the Nunavut, NWT, YK) receive training and find work in digital skill-based jobs by direct wage and training funding to for-profit and not-for-profit businesses.
During the time that Pinnguaq was a recipient of DS4Y, we were able to support the creation of:
- 39 internships
- At 18 different for-profit and not-for-profit small businesses
- Out of the 39 internships:
– 76% were female
– 72% identified as Indigenous - These positions resulted in 29,404 total hours worked by the interns
- Total direct funding to participating employers was over $336,000 in direct wages and over $40,000 in training and other direct support to interns, for a total of more than $376,000 in direct support to employers

Pinnguaq was delighted to have the opportunity to work with DS4Y to provide meaningful work experience to the interns we supported. We can’t wait to announce our DS4Y program for 2020-2022!
