Pinnguaq Association
Pinnguaq Association is a not-for-profit organization that develops and leads STEAM camps, workshops, and digital learning resources. Pinnguaq encourages the development of interactive learning experiences that push the limits of technology and cultural expression. Our STEAM education model (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) encourages learners to be active, have fun, and become engaged in their community.
Student Placement Program
As part of our Life Cycle approach to teaching and learning, Pinnguaq offers co-op opportunities that are designed for high school students to gain meaningful work experience and the digital skills needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
Placements are an opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing careers in education (specifically STEAM education) but also for students who have an interest in digital media production and visual design. Please visit Pinnguaq’s Work page for more information on our organization’s work!
Students will have the to opportunity to work in one of the following areas:
Placement positions can be coordinated as part of an internship/co-op through school or to fulfill volunteer hours. Once the formal placement is complete, students will be welcome to apply for any paid student work opportunities posted through our job board (such as summer student positions or part-time student positions throughout the school year).
Eligibility
- Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary program and be looking to fulfill a work placement requirement for course credit
OR
- Students must be enrolled in secondary school and be looking for a co-op placement for course credit
OR
- Students must be enrolled in secondary school and looking to fulfill volunteer hours
Available Positions
Social Marketing Placement
Available Placements: 1
The Social Marketing placement will allow us to conduct audience research, social media marketing planning, and content creation to support our social media outreach. The student would participate in the development of youth outreach and engagement through digital storytelling. This is a creative and dynamic role that will build practical skills in the foundation of working in communications and marketing through the lens of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
Digital Media Placement

The Pinnguaq Media Lab is a unique digital media production placement that supports high school and university-level emerging digital content creators and science educators interested in developing digital media educational resources. Our program provides an opportunity to learn digital media production skills to produce STEAM educational digital media resources. The student(s) will have a chance to create educational content and experience the hands-on production requirements of small media projects (YouTube tutorial videos, social media teasers, podcasts).
STEAM Educator Placement

STEAM Educator placements are ideal for individuals looking for an alternative to a traditional classroom teaching experience. STEAM Educator placements will support Pinnguaq’s Delivery team with in-person STEAM programming in the Lindsay, ON, Makerspace and in community spaces in Kawartha Lakes, ON. Working under the mentorship of our educators, placements will develop and apply skills in STEAM curriculum development and delivery, and in the use digital skills to support STEAM education, for youth and adult learners.
Graphic Design Placement
Available Placements: 1
These placements are ideal for individuals interested in graphic design across a variety of platforms (social media, publication, and interactive games). Candidates need to be organized and have an eye for design. Students do not need previous experience but should be willing to learn about digital design software and work at developing their sense of composition & passion for design.
Interactive Game Placement
Available Placements: 1
This internship is ideal for someone studying or interested in studying game design and development. Interns will be invited to be a part of the development process and work on one aspect of developing an educational game or interactive. Interns will learn how to review a digital game or educational interactive program and provide critical feedback to consider how to improve the game for learners.
