In the very near future we expect to have an exciting announcement on a DS4Y program for 2020-2022. Please watch this space for more details!
Pinnguaq was one of the recipients of the Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program from 2018 to March 21, 2020. Digital Skills for Youth or DS4Y connects underemployed college graduates with small business and nonprofit organizations where they can gain meaningful work experience to transition to career oriented employment. DS4Y helps graduates aged 15-30 (or anyone between 15-30 in the Nunavut, NWT, YK) receive training and find work in digital skill-based jobs by direct wage and training funding to for-profit and not-for-profit businesses.
During the time that Pinnguaq was a recipient of DS4Y, we were able to support the creation of:
- 39 internships
- At 18 different for-profit and not-for-profit small businesses
- Out of the 39 internships:
– 76% were female
– 72% identified as Indigenous
- These positions resulted in 29,404 total hours worked by the interns
- Total direct funding to participating employers was over $336,000 in direct wages and over $40,000 in training and other direct support to interns, for a total of more than $376,000 in direct support to employers
We also have received a testimonial from Wahkohtowin Development GP Inc who has hired an intern!
First I would like to thank you and Pinnguaq for the financial support you have given us to help our interns with more training in this digital world we work in. This is now our 3rd intern. We have put through this program and find the administrative tools we are given to make the claims to be extremely user friendly and the support we received from the Pinnguaq team has been exceptional. We hope that we can continue to support other interns in the future through this program. Programs such as this one helps small businesses to be able to offer additional training and support.- Marguerite Ross
Pinnguaq was delighted to have the opportunity to work with DS4Y to provide meaningful work experience to the interns we supported. We can’t wait to announce our DS4Y program for 2020-2022!
