Pinnguaq’s Iqaluit Makerspace Has A New Home!

IQALUIT, NUNAVUT – The Iqaluit Makerspace has been providing the community’s youth as a central hub for learning, creativity and innovation since September 2018. To continue to serve as a center, to the best of our abilities, we are relocating! As of Fri. March 1, the Makerspace will be moving to 1412 Sikituuq Court, Iqaluit, NU. In efforts to move everything over as quickly as possible, the Makerspace will be closed all day on March 1.

The Makerspace activities will commence the following day, for the new location’s official opening on Sat. March 2, where Canada Learning Code will be teaching Scratch and a VR workshop for teens, will follow. Check the Makerspace calendar of events at Pinnguaq’s website for more details. March 1. This is an exciting, new chapter for the Iqaluit Makerspace as the bigger space will provide us with more opportunities to expand our programming, events and services. With the growth in both attendance and workshops, it was an important next step to expand our workspace so we can keep up with the demand we’ve experienced since opening.

The new space offers 1040 sp.ft. of prime office space with a large board room. Not only will it make hosting events simultaneously a possibility, but allow us to serve more Iqalummiut and continue sharing the love for tech education. The Makerspace space will also be offering additional services outside of the usual classes and look to offer things such as new programming, party packages, rental space and special extras – full details to follow.

The Iqaluit Makerspace is a gathering place for people of all ages and of all backgrounds to come together to share, learn, create, experiment, play, and have fun in a safe environment. They are a hub for digital and STEAM-based education, art, critical thinking, experimentation, and knowledge-sharing firmly grounded in the values of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and with the principles of respect, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.
