About the author

Ian MacLean is a professional pixel artist/animator and illustrator who has worked in the gaming industry for 16 years. He considers himself a super nerd and has the polyhedral dice, comic collection, and miniatures to prove it.

Tones are important in comics to establish depth and a sense of lighting. Comics need to be coloured, even if they are black and white. And that is what we will learn in this video lesson on tones in Krita.

Black and white comics are a valid stylistic choice when presenting your work. The vast majority of manga is still produced in black and white, even without the colour restrictions of the past. But if you are looking for how to colour your comic further, please view the next lesson episode 8, on colour.
